Session 5:
Creating an Author’s Study on Jesus Colón

Course participants to collaborate in grade level teams in developing a storyboard for a grade appropriate author’s study that is standards-based and that integrates social studies, language arts, and reading.

Teacher candidates are to fashion their presentations on the one presented in class with additional adaptations and information from websites we have reviewed.

We will review the American writer’s series to identify how each featured writer is described and presented. For example:

  1. The life and times of the writer, including connections to or relationships with other writers.
  2. His/her works in context using photos/videos.
  3. Examples of primary source documents such as drafts of work in-progress, unpublished manuscripts.
  4. Links to relevant websites.
