Interviewers Wanted!
The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, CUNY is hiring interviewers for a short-term assignment during the month of June of 2010. The selected candidates will assist researchers in conducting a survey of Puerto Rican farm workers in the Northeast (Western New York, Hudson Valley, NY, Long Island, Southern and Central New Jersey, Connecticut, and Western Massachusetts). Among the tasks the applicant will be required to undertake include: complete certification on the protection of human subjects (IRB), identify interviewees, keep a log, administer survey questionnaire, and return completed interviews safely
Qualifications:
The ideal applicants will be in the process of obtaining or having a B.A. or higher degree. College students enrolled in the social sciences or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Access to a car, travel, and knowledge of Spanish (reading and speaking) is required. Candidates shall have excellent organizational and people skills, experience working with people, ability to methodically carry out duties, and have experience conducting research and working in an academic setting. Interest and experience working on farm labor or low-wage workers’ issues is a plus.
Salary: $20 for each 20-minute survey interview completed and a final bonus for completing assigned quota. We expect interviewers to complete 3-4 interviews in an evening. The number of interviews vary by region but performance will be considered for assignment to additional regions. Training is required and a training stipend will be provided. Also, a travel stipend will be available. We expect to complete 300 interviews and to hire 4-6 interviewers. Please call us if you have any questions.
