REQUEST FOR HISTORICAL PRESERVATION & RESEARCH

PARTNERSHIP PROPOSALS

Application deadline for Spring 2010 Grants: November 18, 2009

Application deadline for 2010-11 Grants: July 1, 2010

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Centro) seeks partners to collect archival material, conduct research and disseminate knowledge about the history of Puerto Rican communities and individuals in the United States. Centro will provide limited funding on competitive bases to awardees for initiating projects for the development and collection of data and for the analysis of existing or new archival materials.

Centro is a research center dedicated to the study and interpretation of the Puerto Rican experience in the United States. It is the world's only repository of archival and library materials dedicated exclusively to the Puerto Rican Diaspora. Centro is committed to facilitating research projects and being useful to community organizations, public policy, and academia. Proposals must address Centro’s core mission.

All collection-of-data projects and analysis of existing or new archival materials, are expected to result in publications in peer?reviewed journals or as chapters in books under contract. Preference will be given to:

  • Collection of archival data that address underrepresented topics or individuals or communities in our current holdings (for a description of current collections, please visit http://www.centropr.org/library_archives2.html?submenu.
  • Requests for Centro archivists’ and college assistants’ time for the support of research projects that use our existing collections and to which researchers contribute their time. We expect to allocate most of the budget requests in in?kind contributions of staff time, of both archivists and college assistants, though limited funding will be available for travel and other out-of-pocket expenses directly related to data collection.
  • Projects that will result in exhibits or events for the Legacy or Barrios Series, or, in content for sections of Centro Voices (samples listed in the next section)
  • All grants are subject to funding availability. We expect project funding to range from $500 to $2,000.
